COSTA’S
ENVIRONMENTAL
POLICY
Costa Cruises’ environmental strategy is far-reaching, contributing to the advancement of the
cruise industry and shipping as a whole thanks to the Company’s pioneering role in the pursuit
of concrete, viable, shared solutions tackling head-on the central issues on the 2030 global
agenda and guaranteeing tangible results.
Well aware of its corporate social responsibility, the Company has embarked on a number of
challenging paths and has implemented several highly ambitious programs that are pre-empting
trends right across the cruise industry and beyond. In line with international directives, Costa
– together with Carnival – has for years pursued a path towards decarbonization and emission
reduction, constantly improving its environmental footprint, while pre-empting national and
international requirements. For example, Costa is committed to achieving a 40% reduction
in the fleet’s CO emissions by 2020, some 10 years ahead of the target laid down by IMO.

Indeed, the Company is concentrating its investments in new fueling systems based on a
long-term vision of sustainable development. Carnival Corporation and Costa Cruises were
the first to believe in the development of LNG-fueling technology, using liquefied natural
gas, the world’s cleanest fossil fuel, while other industry players are now jumping on the LNG
band wagon. There are currently 3 LNG-powered ships for the Costa Crociere Group (one for The regulatory framework on which our Environmental Plan is based is the International

food wastage, its set objective being to halve food waste by 2020, also in this case 10 years potential environmental impacts. In addition to the EMS, in 2019 for the third year running,
