In 2019 we reached an important milestone for the Company with the entry into service of Group CEO, Costa Group & Carnival Asia
our new flagship Costa Smeralda, the first ship in the Costa Cruises fleet powered by LNG

She represents our ability to pre-empt the future and devise a tangible action plan for long-term
reduction of environmental impact. And not only is this a major breakthrough for Costa, but
quite simply Costa Smeralda’s debut heralds a new era that will guide the transformation of the
cruise industry in the years to come.
The promotion of sustainable, responsible and inclusive models is also reflected in the greater
individual awareness of our guests, who are increasingly becoming meaningful travelers. In this
context, the Company focuses on actions that will transfer best practices from ship to shore. Less
use of plastic, tackling food waste, circular economy projects and donation of surplus food are
just some examples of the way Costa Cruises is moving forward on the path towards sustainable
development. We want to offer an innovative vacation experience promoting lifestyles that
anticipate future changes and – more especially – new demands in the travel and leisure industry.
