In line with this approach, the Company decided to help publicize the Fjord Ranger
Programme, an educational project for visitors to the Geirangerfjord UNESCO World
Heritage Site (Norway). This is aimed at the protection and preservation of the delicate
natural heritage of the fjord and the sustainable development of the site, also by means
of awareness-raising actions in partnership with enterprises. Before Costa’s guests visit,
they will be given information about the history, culture and traditions of the places on
the itinerary, and will be invited to go on different routes, beyond the World Heritage
Visitor Centre, with a focus on key sustainability issues for the area.
Costa’s Warm Hospitality also includes respect for diversity and the provision of
measures for inclusion of guests at risk of exclusion from shore tours: during the
reporting year our Adagio Tours continued and were extended to also include Costa
Smeralda. This project, a first for the cruise industry, is specially designed for people
with disabilities and other guests (e.g. seniors and families with toddlers) who prefer
excursions at a more leisurely pace. The tours were designed jointly by Costa Crociere
Foundation and Associazione Italiana Sclerosi Multipla (AISM) with input from 15
women who have MS (through the initiative WAT! – Women Accessibility Tourism)
and who certified the effective accessibility both in the ports of call and in the places
visited during the actual excursions.
